Bill Richardson - AUSSIE Literacy Consultant

Bill Richardson is a former Australian educator, and has 26 years experience as a teacher, staff developer, service manager to schools, curriculum officer, and administrator. He has provided literacy consultancy and staff development services to schools in the U.S.A. since 2001. He has worked with schools and school districts in New York, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.

He has presented workshops on Literacy, Reading Engagement, and Coaching in a range of settings, including the NCTE, The IRA, and the NSDC. He is frequently asked to conduct staff development workshops. Bill spends much of his time working in middle and secondary school teachers’ classrooms in New York City in demonstrating effective literacy instruction that enables students to achieve higher standards.

Bill’s interest and professional work has been in the area of educational disadvantage and equity. He has undertaken school based research projects in the area of literacy and resiliency. He has worked with teachers in a coaching role to provide them with the skills to manage students with disruptive behaviors, while at the same time planning the routines, the class environment and the differentiated instruction in literacy to meet the needs of all students.

Bill has provided statewide training in the management of students with challenging behaviors and in implementation of curriculum frameworks.

He has been a contributing writer to the New York City Department of Education series of publications for Secondary Schools on Assessment and Differentiated Instruction.
