Frank Schoonderbeek - AUSSIE Math Consultant
FRANK SCHOONDERBEEK is serving New York City schools as
a Mathematics consultant entering his seventh year in 2008. Frank coaches in Bronx schools providing professional development
throughout Region 1. He also works with school administrations to develop whole
school change.
Working closely with Principals and Assistant Principals, Frank uses the
Breakthrough Model for school improvement. As part of that work, he supports
Coaches directly through Mathematics Calendar days and uses strategies which
empower teachers to develop their mathematics lessons. Through the services of
the AUSSIE company, he has strengthened a number of schools to achieve A Grade
status on the NYC progress report and move other schools toward higher grade
status.
As an educator, Frank brings over thirty years of experience from Australian
Schools to the New York
public education system. Characteristic of his style is his ‘hands on’ approach
to modeling, coaching and demonstrating strategies in the classroom. A focus
of his work is scaffolding, especially for English Language Learners in
Mathematics. He is described as energetic and generates enthusiasm among
teachers.
In 2006 and 2007, Frank provided
consultancy services in other parts of the United States. Leading a team of
consultants to Bakersfield,
California, he worked with 5
schools developing the coaching and teaching capacity of leading teachers in
Grades 6 - 8.
His recent presentations have been workshops at the MAG conference in Maryland (2007), Principal conferences in Manhattan, NYC (2008) and
his regular coaching workshops in Region 1 Bronx for the past 5 years.
