Jill Goodman

Jill Goodman is a highly effective literacy consultant at AUSSIE.  Throughout her 34 years as an educator, she has assisted many schools in improving achievement in literacy. As a literacy staff developer, she was able to increase the reading performance levels of Grade 4 students from 18% to 55%.  As a literacy coach, balanced literacy was successfully instituted across all grades.

Mrs. Goodman also works as a mentor supporting teachers on all grades in classroom management, academic achievement, and discipline.  Mrs. Goodman’s positive attitude is respected by staff members, and viewed as an important staff resource.
Mrs. Goodman is presently a literacy consultant in the Bronx, New York.  Her focus is in providing professional development for teachers in Kindergarten – Grade 6 in implementing and fine tuning all components of Balanced Literacy for higher level achievement in literacy in their student population.  She has organized model classrooms to exhibit best teaching practices.  Mrs. Goodman has created lab sites in reading and writing in each of her schools for analysis of instruction, and to perfect teaching practices.  Mrs. Goodman created an in depth exploration of the writing process, the stages of writing development, and the writing continuum in many schools.

Mrs. Goodman provides professional development in collecting and analyzing data to determine future instruction.  She has a keen ability to identify obstacles to learning and to develop action plans for schools, grades, teachers and individual students.  Trends are observed and new goals are established.  Her strength also lies in weaving test preparation for reading strategies and skills into daily instruction.  Mrs. Goodman models best teaching practices for new teachers and scaffolds support throughout the year.  She assists schools in establishing a successful learning environment with literacy at its core.  Mrs. Goodman is committed, eager, enthusiastic, and passionate about literacy development.
