John Crane
JOHN CRANE is a math consultant for AUSSIE with a long history of experience teaching in diverse schools in Australia and the U.S.A. He graduated from the University of NSW in Sydney, Australia and taught elementary school for the next 28 years, using his expertise and interest to lead teachers at different schools in math and science curriculum development. He taught in inner city, suburban and rural schools in New South Wales and Queensland, Australia as well as in North Carolina and Virginia. He has a Certificate in Teaching English as a Second or Other Language and worked as an ESL teacher for many years. It was during this time that he developed his interest in the importance of language in mathematics. John joined AUSSIE as a consultant in the 2006-2007 school year and has worked with principals and teachers in NYCDOE and BJE elementary and middle schools in Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens. He was a member of an AUSSIE study group which designed differentiated Everyday Math lessons and templates. He is currently interested in the use of classroom discussion to increase student understanding and in the use of video to help teachers reflect on their teaching.
