Mike Dumbleton

Mike Dumbleton is an experienced Literacy Consultant and a published writer, with many educational and award winning children’s books to his credit. Several of his children’s books have been featured on television and adapted for the stage in Australia. His latest picture book “Cat” was selected as a CBCA Honor Book for 2008 and has just been published in America by Kane Miller Books.

Mike has worked in a wide range of schools providing targeted professional development to successfully improve teacher methodologies and student outcomes. He has also developed resources and teaching practices which have fostered enthusiasm amongst students, and an increased focus on literacy across the curriculum. He is an engaging and sought after presenter at workshops and conferences and is able to assist teachers in translating complex educational theory into manageable and effective practice.

His work with Quality Review Processes, particularly in relation to writing, has been widely acknowledged and featured in books such as “Real Writing Across the Curriculum” and the recently released “Can Cards Writing – Text Types” which was co-authored with his wife, Linda.

Mike works productively with all members of the school community to enhance whole school improvement. In 2005 he received an Australian Federal Award for Outstanding Contribution to Improving Literacy, which recognized his work as an educator and a writer over an extended period of time.
