AUSSIE

MIKE STAUNTON is former high school teacher and guidance counselor who has also worked in Special Education, in primary schools as a guidance officer, and as a part-time lecturer at universities in Brisbane and Townsville.

Since Oct 2006, Mike has been working as an education consultant in New York City.  In that time, he has worked in school districts in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Manhattan, Harlem, Jersey City, and New Jersey.  This work ranged from working one-on-one with teachers, through to facilitating a whole district in a curriculum writing process.

Mike’s main areas of interest are Social Studies / literacy, data analysis, formative assessment, and the use of data to inform instruction. As a consultant in New York, Mike has focused especially on assisting high school teachers understand the elements and skills of literacy and comprehension across the curriculum, and on an inquiry based, student centered approach to instruction.
