Tim Ryan
TIM RYAN is currently serving in his fifth year as a math consultant, and works with principals, coaches and math teachers across the pre-K to grade 8 year levels. He has strong interests in student assessment, and with his daughter (a computer programmer) has developed an assessment database which incorporates both numerical scoring and raw data gathered through assessments using DVD clips, scanned student and teacher written products, multiple choice assessments and short or extended written responses. Assessment proformas which he has developed are in extensive use in K-2 classrooms across many schools in Jersey City. He guides and supports teachers in using data for follow-up teaching.He is especially interested in helping teachers incorporate virtual manipulatives and computer-based learning within math lessons using the workshop model. He is a frequent participant in math classrooms, through demonstration and co-teaching lessons, grade level meetings, and on-the-spot planning and coaching. Teachers’ post-session evaluations give high regard to school and district workshops which he has planned and presented.
He has contributed strongly to the Quality Review process in his work in Region 9 in Manhattan, NYC, and has helped his current school identify and implement successful student behavior management strategies to support instructional environments and school climate.
Tim holds 4 post-secondary degrees or diplomas, including a Masters degree in Early Literacy. His Australian professional experience included 11 years as a school principal, and significant work with local, state and national principal associations. He has been a company director of 4 companies across the not-for-profit and profit sectors. He brings wide experience, imagination and professional energy, and a “big picture” perspective to his work as a math consultant.
