"The ELA Scores are in, and they're through the roof!"
“The ELA scores are in,” Lynne Manouvrier exclaimed, “and they’re through the roof!” Lynne is the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in the East Meadow School District and was recently featured in the Herald Newspaper for her district’s success this school year. Lynne stated that one of the main contributors to the districts success was their use of AUSSIE consultants over the past five years. AUSSIE began in the district by implementing a Balanced Literacy program in the elementary schools and has since been working in the middle schools to promote shared reading and encourage group collaboration in the classroom.
In just two short years at the middle school level they were able to increase the ELA scores to rank the in the top ten of the entire county. When I spoke with, Andrea Lowenkopf, an AUSSIE Consultant working in a number of schools throughout the district, she said, “Never in my thirty years of work as a Literacy Consultant, has change been so quick and dramatic as it has been (in East Meadow).” The teachers commitment to improving instruction coupled with the administrators support enabled East Meadow to increase ELA scores in sixth, seventh and eighth grade by over 10%.
AUSSIE’s philosophy of working side-by-side with teachers and administrators enabled the consultants to tailor a program that tackles the district’s specific needs. “For two years, we have worked on this curriculum, tweaking it in class, sharing assessments, lessons, homework… The teachers e-mailed me constantly for suggestions and advice,” Andrea said. This type of customized PD yields the most significant results, and enables administrators to use the new techniques and build upon them in the future.
We would like to congratulate East Meadow on their extraordinary success and wish them the best of luck in the future.

It's great to see East Meadow's hard work paying off in such a huge way! I had a chance to read through the article and the fact that they were ranked amongst consistent top performers Jericho and Roslyn is a tremendous accomplishment. Keep up the good work East Meadow!
