AUSSIE's Annual Consulate Event for Principals

Blog entry posted June 5th, 2009 by Thomasine Sandul

Though there were raindrops falling outside, the mood was festive inside the Australian Consulate on May 28th when AUSSIE and its partner schools gathered to celebrate the success of the 2008-2009 school year.

The room was full of principals, assistant principals, coaches, lead teachers, AUSSIE consultants and office staff, sharing food, drink, celebration, laughter and pride about the past school year.

One Bronx principal said, “I really enjoyed having the opportunity to converse with my colleagues and peers outside of the school setting. We were able to share our successes and commiserate on our challenges. It was also great to relax. All too often we get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the day and lose touch with our social side. Thank you AUSSIE for arranging this wonderful event.”

About mid way through the evening, President Jeff Vohden and CEO Sheena Hervey reflected on the successful school year and awarded Maria Nunziata of P.S. 130 in Brooklyn, with the Diane Snowball Award. Maria was acknowledged for her hard work and dedication at P.S. 130 and for adopting the core values and beliefs of AUSSIE.

Maria will be honored again at AUSSIE’s June 6th PD Day for its consultants. Check back soon to see pictures from that.

All and all the night was a lot of fun. As I looked around the room I saw tired but smiling faces of principals and school staff who have worked so hard to achieve their goals this year and were thrilled to have AUSSIE’s support to do so.

If you missed the event be sure to look out for your invite next year as this Washington Heights principal said, “This was my first year attending the AUSSIE consulate event and now I’m so sorry I missed the previous ones. I’m already looking forward to it next year!”

If you were there please post a comment about your experience at the event – I look forward to reading it!

Great post Thomasine, I

Great post Thomasine, I couldn't have put it better myself. My favorite part was when Maria was honored in front of her colleagues and peers with the Diane Snowball Award. The admiration and respect for her great accomplishments could be felt throughout the entire room. I sincerely look forward to next years event!

I agree, Thomasine -- it

I agree, Thomasine -- it certainly was a fantastic event. I really enjoyed the opportunity to meet the diverse range of principals that we are currently working with. Great post!
