Boston's School Improvement Symposium - May 5th
AUSSIE is proud to be hosting an exclusive educational experience for schools in the Boston area, including an afternoon with Dr. Richard Elmore on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at the Boston Radisson Hotel.
The day will begin at noon with an amazing workshop outlining key steps to increase 21st Century Literacy in your schools. Session One: Reconnecting Schools - Thinning the Walls (12-2:30pm)
Who Should Attend? Leadership and Instructional Teams on the School and District Level
What is it All About? Practical strategies for harnessing the power of a rigorous curriculum and classroom activities to create a positive and transparent school culture that encourages success for all.
Agenda:
- Explore the current demands in schools such as: accountability, teacher retention, student engagement, curriculum and budget.
- Understand how being 'disconnected' in school has implications on student performance and how you can 'reconnect' schools.
- See examples of successful schools with a transparent curriculum and a clear understanding of how to best address state, district and school based curriculum.
- Investigate how well we know our students and the power of data in learning more about the individual learner, differentiating instruction and holding teachers accountable for learning.
- Learn strategies for fostering 'teaching magic' in your school.
- Bring it all together ensuring that participants leave with practical strategies that they can use immediately.

Session Two: Exploring New Possibilities for School Improvement - An afternoon with Dr. Richard Elmore (3:30-5:30pm)
The second session will be a keynote address with world renowned speaker and educator, Dr. Richard Elmore.
Who Should Attend? School and District Leadership
About the Presenter: Dr. Elmore is a Professor of Education at Harvard University and a Senior Research Fellow with the Consortium for Policy Research in Education (CPRE). Dr. Elmore is currently co-director of a CPRE research project on school accountability. He is also co-principal investigator of a multi-year study of instructional improvement and professional development.
Dr. Elmore says "If your going to make the changes in student learning that accountability requires, you have to dramatically increase the skill and knowledge of teachers and principals."
What is it All About? During his keynote and conversation, Dr. Elmore will offer practical strategies to help support school leadership increase the capacity within their schools in times when budget cutbacks, higher expectations and greater pressure have become a way of life for school administrators. We are confident this event will provide great insight and beneficial strategies to help you and your school cope during this time of increasing challenges.
