Common Core Standards

Common Core State Standards Initiative (CCSSI) is a state-led effort coordinated by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO).
As you know, governors and state commissioners of education from 48 states, 2 territories and the District of Columbia have committed to developing a common core of state standards in English-language arts and mathematics for grades K-12. These new core standards will be rolled out this summer iin various school districts. 
We are able to support you in your endeavors to integrate the content and pedagogy of the new core standards into the daily instruction at your school

According to the National Governor’s  Association standards are:

  • Aligned with college and work expectations;
  • Clear, understandable and consistent;
  • Include rigorous content and application of knowledge through high-order skills;
  • Build upon strengths and lessons of current state standards;
  • Informed by other top performing countries, so that all students are prepared to succeed in our global economy and society; and

Many of you know AUSSIE because of our expertise in literacy, math, science and social studies—but did you know that:
 

  • AUSSIE can support schools as they unpack and make sense of the new common core standards for teachers and administrators and parents.  Additionally, AUSSIE can assist schools in aligning the new common core standards with existing curricula and instruction. This includes embedding the new standards into your current curriculum maps.
     
  • AUSSIE has developed a database that manages the authentic literacy data collected by teachers. This database creates graphs and reports that help teachers analyze assessment data and inform instruction.
     
  • AUSSIE has created rubrics aligned to the common core standards that provide a systematic, developmental, standards based approach to monitoring the development of reading strategies for emergent and fluent readers. AUSSIE can assist schools in developing their own rubrics as well.
     
  • AUSSIE can provide support and guidance as teachers and administrators begin to tackle and try to understand the concept of text complexity and its instructional implications.
